Integrative Medicine Diagnostics

Integrative Medicine Diagnostics

Integrative Medicine, as it is practiced in the state of Florida by a Doctor or Oriental Medicine, is the practice of medicine that employs a combination of alternative medical diagnostic tools and treatments such as acupuncture, homeopathy, lifestyle counseling, nutrition and food therapy, herbology, kinesiology, pulse and tongue diagnosis, along with conventional medical diagnostic tools such as ordering traditional lab work including blood, urine and saliva tests.  A Doctor of Oriental Medicine receives training in both Eastern and Western Medicine and is able to effectively communicate and work with other healthcare practitioners to employ Oriental Medicine and other alternative therapies along with traditional medical therapies to achieve the most effective outcomes for the patient.  Treating the patient as a whole and complex being is the foundation of Integrative Medicine. The patients’ overall health and wellness takes a high priority over treating the ‘disease’ or ‘symptom’.

Ordering specialty lab work can be very beneficial in the practice of Integrative Medicine.    For example, ordering a blood or urine test for heavy metals can help a practitioner know which herbs or nutrients to prescribe in order to facilitate a detox for the patient, which would then further help the patient heal from endocrine and thyroid disorders, digestive difficulty, fatigue and depression.  Saliva tests for various hormones such as DHEA, Cortisol, and neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine can show the practitioner which herbs or nutrients that can help with fertility, menopause, adrenal fatigue, depression, anxiety and insomnia.

A practitioner who uses Integrative Medicine techniques can order lab tests for male or female hormones, weight loss, adrenals, bone health, cardiovascular panels, allergies, nutritional deficiencies, insulin and sugar management panels, autoimmune disorder panels, and general wellness or ‘routine blood work’.

Blood, urine and saliva tests that can be ordered by Dr. Kathy Veon, DOM, CCN include tests from the following labs:
