Holistic Medicine Therapies
Holistic Medicine includes a wide variety of ‘alternative’ treatments and therapies including: acupuncture, herbology, nutrition therapy, clinical nutrition, functional medicine, kinesiology, bio-feedback therapies, massage (tui-na), breathing and movement exercises (Qi Gong), Pelotherapy (mud packs), food therapy, exercise, emotional healing, and many others. This holistic approach addresses the whole person: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The patient – physician relationship can be deeper and the time spent with each patient, in a one-on-one type of setting, is usually much greater than one would spend with a traditional medical doctor. Often, 1 to 3 hours is set aside for each patient to spend with the Holistic Medicine practitioner, in both a discovery and diagnosis stage, as well as a treatment or therapy stage. The main therapies offered at Central Florida Preventive Medicine are:
Nutrition and Herbal Therapy. By using Quantum Reflex Analysis (QRA), Dr. Kathy Veon, DOM, CCN can effectively palpate each ‘command center’ point and determine if there is a specific ‘strength’ or ‘weakness’ that corresponds to the organs or glands governed by a particular meridian system and command center acupuncture point (Front Mu and Back Shu points). The testing can reveal a specific need for an herbal or nutritional formula, as well as the exact dosage that will balance the organ or gland system. Testing is repeated every 2 to 6 weeks to monitor progress and healing. QRA testing is a Holistic Medicine technique that uncovers how organ and gland systems are working both independently and holistically.
Pelotherapy (Cation Mud Therapy). Mud Therapy is a Holistic Medicine tool that can be used in much the same way as acupuncture to effectively clear blocked energy within the body’s meridian systems. The therapeutic mud is made of herbs and clays that are massaged in to both the trauma site and the associated ‘reflex’ point along the affected meridian. Toxins that have accumulated in a specific area due to a past injury can also be released. This Holistic Medicine therapy can relieve pain, allow for better nutrient uptake and absorption, and offer an overall sense of well-being.
Acupuncture. Very fine Japanese style needles are used to clear energy blockages, stagnation and imbalances within the body’s meridian system, allowing the body to do what it does best: heal itself by achieving and maintaining a healthy balance or all the organ and gland systems. Acupuncture can be used for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances and is a very popular therapy within Holistic Medicine paradigm.
Lifestyle Counseling. Breathing and movement exercises (Qi Gong), meditation, HeartMath technique, food therapy, dietary recommendations, as well as other supportive therapies, reading and activities are often recommended to formulate a Holistic Medicine approach to whole body healing.
Emotional Repolarization Technique (ERT). Kinesiology is used to determine if there are past emotional traumas that have caused ‘stagnation’ in the body’s emotional, mental, spiritual or physical state of being. The nature of the trauma can be revealed along with the age at which the trauma occurred and who was involved and who needs to be forgiven, in order for the body to regain balance and health. This is an excellent therapy for clearing emotional blockages that lead to self-sabotaging behaviors, poor health, difficulty in sticking with a healing program, or for PTSD types of issues.
EVOX. EVOX is a bio-feedback therapy that can clear emotional stagnation at the subconscious level. Unlike hypnotherapy, which is also a good therapy to clear past trauma, EVOX does not make any kind of suggestion for the patient to follow. Instead, the patient speaks about the person or event that may have been involved in the trauma, and the bio-feedback system allows gentle impulses to stimulate the subconscious to release the painful memory, to be viewed and reprocessed by the ‘adult brain’ instead of the ‘child brain’ or ‘trauma brain’. Many people find that EVOX is similar to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in its ability to clear subconscious stress associated with past traumatic events, parental upbringing, or other traumatic events that may be either real or perceived.
